Happy Birthday and Good Bye

We celebrated Clara's 1st Birthday together on September 21st.
She was outstandingly adorable.

The good-bye is a little premature but Sarah's leaving NYC soon.  Sad.

Big Boy = Big Desk

Simon and Daddy put together his new desk a few weeks ago- we are just a bit late in posting it.
Simon loves having his own grown up space and has done homework, drawn, written, and played computer games on it.

You will also notice the new paint job in Simon's room- Thanks Daddy!

Out Of Order

These are from LAST school year.  But I though you would all enjoy seeing some pages from Simon's science journal.

The Statue And The Hedgehog

OK  It's actually Simon and the Statue of Liberty.

This picture is a few days old- but better a little late than never.

The real excitement today was the first day back to school.  Simon was very excited and seems to have a had a good day.  We are pleased.  He came home and did his homework immediately.  We are very pleased about that.

One More Maine Adventure

We had a fun adventure one day going somewhere I'd never been before.

We drove up to Bucksport where they've built a new bridge with an observation tower.

And we went to Fort Knox.  The fort was filled with long dark tunnels that were super fun to explore.

Simon loved it, especially since we had a flashlight in the car.

There were also cannons.  Great big ones.

And slightly smaller ones.  I think I took a perfect picture here.  But notice that along with the big explosion there is a much smaller one coming out the back of the cannon.

Here's the explanation for it.

Now here is a small metal tube just like the one being described.

This one hit me!  Really.  I was shot by a cannon.  Right after I took the picture above something small and burning hot landed on my leg.  I flicked it off quickly but curiosity got the better of me and I found it.  Then I asked the guys firing the cannon if small bits were supposed to be hitting people.  I had a little bruise and burn from it!  But I thought it was so great I bought a hat just so I could say I'd been shot by a cannon at Fort Knox.
