As Easy as Pie!

(This is a little out of order.)
To contribute to the Thanksgiving feast, Simon and Mama made a pumpkin pie. We truly made it together and we made it from scratch. Simon scooped seeds. (And later--not pictured--scooped cooked flesh, blended it, helped measure and add the other ingredients, and helped measure and mix the ingredients for crust.)

Simon rolled out his own mini-crust. No way Mama was going to let him do the big one!

Success! Look at those delicious pies!

Thanksgiving Extras

And because Aunt Lisi is a extraordinary host--Thanksgiving also included...
Pin the tail on the donkey!

Candy Land!

And trains! (You can't tell from the picture but that train is whizzing by--it is one of six in an elaborate set-up we visited on Friday.)

Thanksgiving

We went to Mountain Lakes for Thanksgiving. It was absolutely perfect. We were joined there by Aunt Lisi and Uncle Robert, Grandma Jean and Papa Don, and good family friends of Lisi and Robert- Dawn, Jim, Ariana, and James.

Ariana (formerly known as Tinkerbell) and Simon got on so well it was almost strange. from 3 to 7 without one single conflict. We think it is because they understood each other well

But really the whole day come down to this...

Thank you Robert for putting together a great meal.

Simon Says Thanks You

Simon got a very nice post card from Grandma Jean and Papa Don in the mail today. He wanted to send them a card to say 'thank you' in return. He first came to me with this and asked me if it said 'thank you'.

Of course, I told him that no, it didn't- but that it was good writing. He then asked me to tell him the letters to 'thank you' and he would write it. Which he did. Be generous. Lower case t, backwards lowercase h, capital A, backwards n that is turing up the paper, and a k where the two sitck off parts don't meet, a Y missing it's bottom half, an o, and a u.

He has gotten VERY excited about writing and starting to read- though especially writing. Anyone who wants to write to him, please feel free, he loves feeling special when he gets mail.

And to Grandma and Papa, thanks from the parents too- you help inspire Simon to write!

Simon and Julia's Day Off

Julia and Simon had a day off, but Will still had to go to class. So they took a trip to Central Park. First, they took a ride through the park in a Hansom Cab.

Then they headed over to FAO Schwartz...

Happy Halloween!

Here is Simon turning into Curious George.

And now the Man With the Yellow Hat and Curious George will trick-or-treat rain or shine! (We got lucky, and while there was rain, it was never too cold, too heavy, or too daunting. Besides, Mama was well protected by her hat.)

Simon got to trick-or-treat with Ariana, who is becoming a good Mountain Lakes friend for him. She was dressed as tinkerbell so a typical conversation between then would go somthing like this, "Tinkerbell, do you love candy?" "Yes! A lot! I really love candy!" "Me too." Simon do you want to ring the doorbell at this house?" Yes, and you can do the next one." "OK! Let's Go"

After the rain, the sugar, the chaos, the spooky noises, the myriad of costumes, Simon was pretty well fried. And it showed. (But notice, he is eating an apple.)
