There were castles built.

Waves run from.

Waves crashed into.

Not pictured - we also ate a yummy picnic, dug big holes, made new friends, played with old friends, went out deep and rode the swells like a roller coaster, and Mama and Daddy got taought to body surf!  If was a great thing to do on the first day summer vacation.

Poetry

We got a lot of stuff from Simon's year at school- it'll take a while for me to scan things in and take photos- so be patient.  But here's a small dose- They just had a poetry unit, here are four of Simon's poems- enjoy!

Kindergarten Celebration

The school year is coming to a close.  On Friday we celebrated with Simon's Kindergarten class.  He was VERY excited about it.  The class performed an opera and a play and sang a couple of songs.  It was lovely.  We have some fun video that will be posted later with editing.

This is Simon's teacher, Ms. B.  They had a special relationship and we are deeply grateful to her for her patience and determination.  She loved Simon very much and truly believed in his potential.  She also rejoiced in his personality and talents.  What a great teacher.

What To Do On Father's Day

Let your child climb a hugely high fire-tower.  Yes- Simon made it happily to the top.

Let your child tickle his face with ferns.  Yup.  Apparently it's fun.

As you can see we took a fabulous hike for Father's day.  Sterling Forest State Park is lovely!  We went well over 4 miles and Simon was a total trouper.  He also got a hiking stick- he has better form is using it than the picture above.

Personal Note:  Will is a totally amazing dad.

Precocious

Getting out of the car last night Simon says out of nowhere, "I have been arguing with my friends about God."  "What?" say his worried parents.  "Some of my friends say people came from God.  I told them story about the plants you told me about but they didn't believe me."  "What story about the plants?"  "You know- the one where there was a cell and it became a plant and then a person?"

Well, he is kind of on track to understanding evolution.  We cleared up the plants-to-people part and also made sure he understood that lots of people had lots of opinions about where people came from.  Then later Will said he was proud of our little Christopher Hitchens.

The Tooth Extraction Was a Success

Simon has proven to have somewhat soft baby teeth or bad tooth brushing technique. So he got two fillings a couple weeks ago. And today he had a molar removed that was past the filling point.

He was a trooper. Quite scared by the whole thing, but didn't need any cajoling along the way. Hopped right into the dentist chair. And then started talking to the x-ray machine... before he got any nitrous.  He wasn't quite as amusing on nitrous as I had expected.

And now he seems to be doing fine after eating mac n' cheese and mashed potatoes for dinner.

Take Off

This a totally Simon shot and narrated video.  It's lengthy- around 3 minutes, but there are some choice moments and the 'floating away' song at the end is pretty darn funny.

You Probably Figured It Out By Now

FInally these three intrepid adventurers

climbed aboard.

And floated away!
