Sensitive Boy

This came home from school with all of the stuff we'd never seen.  It is from the very beginning of the year, you can almost see the date, Sept 26th, stamped on the first page.
Some of you will remember the tornados that hit NYC quite a while back- well, it was clearly a deeply felt event for Simon.

This page might say, "At my house I, but there was a tornado"

"That tornado was to hard."

"And that tor not tornado"

"Oh no!  That tornado worried me at night."

Happy Day
The End

Fun Back In NYC

We've been continuing to have fun (though without blueberries) back in NYC.

Terrible quality picture- but I'll bet you know where we are!

We also rode the Shark!  A fun and fast tour boat.

Afterwards we chilled with lemonade on a new park- pier 15- if you're even down by the South Street Seaport you should check it out.

A Little Bit More Maine

There were ducklings on the waterfall.

Simon liked feeding the ducks- though he never got to feed the ducklings.

This is on top of Mt. Battie.

Simon got to go to a show in an inflatable planetarium.

How To Lobster

First you need to search for the right bouy.

When you find it, hook it.  Or gaff it.  Don't ask anyone who isn't from Maine how to say gaff- apparently the rest of us can't say it right at all.

Haul in the trap with the winch.

If you're lucky, there will be a lobster in it- you have to measure it to see if it is a 'keeper'.  Keeper is another word that you need to be from Maine to say right.

Empty out the bait bag.

Then load it up with new bait.

Then dump it all back over board.

It's His Heritage

Grandma Jean's Grandfather was a lobster fisherman here in Maine.
We decided it was time for Simon to learn a bit about this part of his heritage.
We went out on a small boat called the Captain Jack (though the captain was actually named Steven Hale) and learned all about lobstering.
Simon loved it.

He got to see all the steps up close.

Meet some other sea life- here a small eel.

And, of course, play with a lobster!
