How To Start Your Maine Vacation

The first morning you should go down to the harbor before 8:00 to watch the cannon being shot!
Sadly, it was Sunday and they don't shoot the cannon on Sunday.
But- we did find this cool boat...

And of course there should be ice cream eating.
Note the rain soaked background- in our over two weeks in Maine it barely rained at all- but it did pour right when I'd promised Simon ice cream.

And head off to camp.

 Simon did two weeks of Camp-A-Homa- the local YMCA camp.  Sadly, we don't have pictures of his adventures and friends from camp.  He absolutely loved it and has already said he'd like to go back.  Here's a quick run-down of some of what they did;
1. Swimming.  Lots of swimming.  In the Y pool, in Norton's pond, in lake Megunticook, and in the bay at the Belfast beach.
2. Hiking.  Simon told he choose hiking one day instead of Arts and Crafts because hiking was better for his body.
3. Archery.  The real deal!
4. Canoeing.  Simon is very excited to do this again soon.
5. Games.  We were never clear what games.   Simon didn't seem to love this part as much as the rest.
6. Field Trips.  The first week they went to the Desert of Maine.  Yes, a little mini desert- though not due to rainfall- you can google it.  The second week they went to the Bangor children's museum.
7. Make Friends.  Simon has a new pen-pal named Jacob.  They were together the first week of camp and then both begged endlessly for a playdate until we gave them one.  What's really fun is that Jacob's family is an old area family and Grandma Jean knows them well, the day of the playmate she had just gone out to lunch with Jacob's Great Aunt.
